About:China Visa Application in USA

US Citizen staying in China for less than 24 hours- do I need a visa?

Hi, I am a US citizen and have two overnight stopovers (each are less than 24 hours) in Chengdu and then in Shanghai. I was wondering if I need to apply for any if I want to leave the airport and stay in the city? I have a continuing flight to Kathmandu and then to the U.S.?

each less than 24 hours? if you transit via two airports in mainland PRC, the transit time in total should be within 24 hours, otherwise, you have to apply for a transit G type in advance.
