You qualify for the 24h twov in Shanghai, and no visa will be required. But leaving the airport is no longer possible if your layover is less than 24 hours regardless of nationality. In some cases, however, people were let in when they showed their hotel booking confirmations. So if you have that confirmation, you can try to leave the airport. Or you can apply for a visa for that before your trip.
