From Shanghai to JiuZhaiGou

Hi, I want to travel somewhere in Sept-Oct to JZG from Shanghai. I want to make a short city trip of 3/4 days. Could you tell me what is best to do? What the cost might be? I read that some travellers say that JZG is doable in 1 day and other say in 2 days. What is true? And if we stay 3/4 days, what do you recommend us to visit besides JZG?
