Can I fly from LA to Japan then Japan to Bejing for 3 days and back to LA from Bejing?

I am afraid that you can't enjoy the 72 hours visa free policy. The departure and destination is the same and it will be considered as a single trip. By the way, you don't leave for the third country or region.1
