Extending my stay on a 12-month tourist visa with a 60 day limit for each visit

I would like to go back to China and visit my son and his family for about 100 days. I have a 12 month multiple visit visa but it says that the duration of each stay is only 60 days. I want to go over with a round-trip ticket for the dates of the 100 days. Do I wait and apply for the extra days once I'm in China or should I apply with the Consulate Office in Los Angeles where I got my original visa?

Hi, the 12 month multiple L with 60 days is almost the best type you can get. You can enter China first. To apply extension in China is ok, but it is not suggested because you may lose multiple entries, or get one with 90 days (still not longer enough as you expected). So, you may simply visit HK or Macao before 60 day duration expires and re-enter China to active another 60 days.

Thanks for the information. Will it be a problem if I purchase a round trip ticket that is good for the 100 day window and then go to Hong Kong as you suggest? Will they question the dates of the round trip ticket?
Thanks,
Cynthia

Hi, don't worry, it is ok as you have valid multiple entries visa on your passport.
