Visa Overstaying problem, help me!

Hello!!! what is the charge if someone overstays more 1 month without resident permit or Visa (a student) due to some problems(lack of support) how can he go back home? my friend has this problem what can he do to leave china?

The limit is CNY 5000. If your friend can not pay the fine, he/she will be detained for 3-10 days according to the law. More seriously, he/she will be deported. He/she should report himself/herself to the local police station.

Thanks, but what if he reports himself to the police before getting that money to pay those extra days and maybe the tickets to go back home. do you think police will try to find him if it takes long time in case he does not report himself?
We had suggested him to call his embassy but still worried about what he can do before it gets too late.

I think he should contact his embassy as early as possible. Those who are deported may not come to China again because of his previous record of overystaying.
