can an American apply for a work visa in Bangkok?

We are entering China on a tourist visa but will be working. We understand we need to leave the country to apply for the work Z and then come back to China and apply for the residence permit, etc. We will be in Bangkok and were wondering if we could apply for it while there.

Hi, it is getting tough to get visa in Bangkok if you are not a resident there as I heard many stories about application refusal there recently. Maybe you can try to contact the consulate in Changmai for this.
