do i have to renew my passport before extending my l-visa?

Hi! I am from Pakistan. I have been living in China for about 3 months with my husband who is a student on X-visa. While I got L to visit my husband for the duration of 6 months(180 days). Now it is going to expire in Feb 2013, while my passport will expire at the end of May 2013. I want to extend my L for another 6 months, but till Feb my passport validity will be just of 3 months. I have heard from some resources that for extension of L-visa passport validity should be of 6 months at least. Is it true in China as well? Do I have to renew my passport before extending my L?Please reply clearly and urgently .

Yes, you should renew your passport first, then extend your L in China. Passport renewal takes time, you can start the processing asap.

Hi farah, did you get you L visa extended?    I am a Pakistani working in China,  I want to invite my wife to China on L.  My China work Z is valid for One Year. But I heard that Pakistani embassy can only give her L only for 3 months.How was your experience when you got your L from Chinese embassy from Pakistan. As you said, you had a Six month.   was it a multiple entry?

Yes, I got L-visa of 180 days(6 months) and it was single entry. Now, I went for extension, they told that they will extend it for 3 months only, and after 3 months i have to make extension again. In this way , your wife can live with you as long as you want.But keep in mind that my husband is on X-visa valid for 3 years, thats why they gave me initial 6 months. You can better ask China embassy in pakistan and clear this confusion.
