Visa overstay in China

Hi,
About 1 year ago, on route to getting my new visa, my wallet was stolen with all my cards and passport. This caused major headaches as you can imagine. The British embassy where only helpful to a certain extent, it took like 4 weeks to get my new passport. Having to deal with my embassy and the local PSB to get a letter to send with my application for my new passport to prove that I have reported it, by which time I had overstayed, paid the fine, at the time was a max of 5000RMB, had the ten day remark in my passport, was told I could go to HK to get it, but this was around the Christmas holidays. HK being a former British colony, they celebrate all the festive holidays, so all the consular services where closed for the holiday period, so I just decided to get a flight back home, no sweat, a year on, I have an internship lined up in China, and I am wondering whether this past event will affect my chances of getting a new visa. Any information would be much appreciated, I have look on the laws and regulations, it's kinda left me confused, because it doesn't say I can't apply for a new one, but it seems its up to the consular officer to grant a new permit. Any info would be much appreciated again

You can apply for a new one in UK, the mark on your passport and shows the overstay but it was the case of wallet stolen. You'd better explain to them about the details when you submit your applicaiton this time.

Hi,

Thanks for that, I am currently living and working in Thailand at the moment, do you still think they would be as understanding in the Thai Embassy if I explain the situation??

Hi Andre, do you still have the proof of your wallet lost by the PSB, or a copy of it will be of much help for you. In a word, if you can provide proof of your un intended overstay, I'm sure you will be given a visa by the embassy. You know that oral expressions cannot be taken as proof.
