Is it ok to visit Shanghai using working visa even i dont have work in China?

I have working visa valid until April 2013. I worked in China for almost 7 years, but unfortunately, my last job has been ended since July 2012. Now im back in the Philippines, but planning to visit some friends in Shanghai this november. Is it ok to use it even i dont have work there? or do i need to apply for tourist L? I already have hotel booking. please advice soon.

Do you mean you have residence permit valid until April 2013. The Z visa expired if you used it to China before. If yes, the permit is ok for use to visit Shanghai if it is valid.

Thanks Ms. Selina for the reply.. My China working visa is valid until April 2013. My previous employer applied it for me last April 2012, however i resigned from my work last July 2012, and now I m back in the Philippines. I am planning to visit Shanghai next week, but I'm a bit nervous, and i dont know if i can pass the immigration using my (Z) even I dont have work anymore in China. Can you please elaborate on this? Am i safe to go to China without the tourist L. THank you thank you.

No, as I said above, Z visa only can be used to enter china once, you are required to apply for a residence permit after entry. Then the residence permit works as multiple entries. If you are going to visit friends, you need to apply for a tourist visa.
