i don't like hot weather; is it likely to be much more bearable last 2 weeks of august?

As a lecturer, I only really have summer holidays to visit China, and need to be back in UK by start of September. So I was wondering if the weather might be significantly more pleasant if I went at the end of August, compared, say to the middle of July.

Well, in fact, it is still very hot during that time. The temperature may be above 30C.  Showers often happen unexpectly in Xian. You need to pay close attention to the weather forecast before go outside when travelling in Xian.
