I don't like hot weather; is it likely to be much more bearable last 2 weeks of August?

As a lecturer, I only really have summer holidays to visit China, and need to be back in UK by start of September. So I was wondering if the weather might be significantly more pleasant if I went at the end of August, compared, say to the middle of July.
