Application for Z visa

I would like to apply for a Z visa for China. I have all the documentation from the school that I would be working for but unfortunately the documents refer to Hong Kong as opposed to South Africa. Is it still possible for me to get the visa from the Chinese embassy in Durban? The invitation letter is in order.

"the documents refer to Hong Kong," does this mean you were guided to apply for Z visa in HK as written in these documents? If I am correct, you can apply with these documents in South Africa, you home country.
