do i need a visa confirmation?

do i need a visa notification from my employer?what is visa notifiacation is this different from an invitation letter?

As I know, the visa notification has been substituted by Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Unit or Confirmation Letter of Invitation since January 1st, 2011. Either of the letter should be issued by an anthorized Chinese unit such as local foreign affairs office or other relevant government office.
