Do I need a China transit visa if I am flying from hongkong to Beijing and onwards to Britain on the same day?

i am flying from hongkong to Beijing and onwards to Britain on the same day do i need a visa. i am a british citizen - but work for a media organisation and am only allowed a single entry

You have a single entry visa to China? or you have already used it, and this time from Hong Kong to Beijing is another entry? if for latter, it is ok if your transit in Beijing is less than 24 hours and you will remain in the airport.
