Visa required to go to Beijing

I'm a Filipino (from Philippines) that currently living in Japan. I'd like to ask if I also need to get a visa first in order to travel to Mainland China especially in Beijing. I'm planning to travel to HK for a day and from there travel to Beijing. If visa is required to enter Beijing, is it possible to get it in HK? and how long will it take?
