About:Chinese Consulate in San Francisco

If getting a student visa to study in Shanghai, do you also need tourist visa if traveling as well?

My daughter will be getting a student visa via the IES Study Abroad program. She and I (mom) want to go together a week before the start of the program to do some tourist things. I know I need a tourist visa but does she need a separate tourist visa for that one week before the official start of the school program or is it okay for her to put the arrival date for the student program as a week prior to when it starts?

Your daughter doesn't need to apply for a seperate tourist visa, it is ok for your daughter to go to China one week before the official start of the school program on a student visa.
