His wife was Empress Lü. After Liu Bang's death, Lü brutalized one of his favorite concubines, Lady Qi and killed her son. Empress Lü cut off Lady Qi's arms and legs, cut out her tongue, kept her in a dungeon and put her on display as "the human pig." She is infamous for her acts of cruelty and for her power-hungry nature. She is the only Dowager Empress to have ever ruled China under her own name, having acted as "regent" for her son, whose fear and shot of her treatment of Lady Qi caused him to keep to his rooms for the remainder of his "reign".
