About:China Customs Declaration

My son is in china and i sent him a digital camera from the united states worth $100. dollars U.S. His digital camera broke and he needed another one. Customs charged himn 2000 RMB to pick up the package. Did they tax him too much? And did he have to pay tax since it was for his personal use? He is working there until Aug 2011.
My daughter wants to send him an itouch. will that be taxed? It is a gift to him.

Your son has to pay the tax, since China custom do charge a high tax for digital things brought in/out China. If the Itouch is new and will be packaged, then about 20-50% of its price will be taxed even if it will be sent as a gift.
