About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

international transit without entry - passport validity less than 3 months

I will be flying with China Southern Airlines from Tokyo Haneda Airport (Japan) to Frankfurt Airport (Germany), with a layover at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport. The duration of my layover in Guangzhou will be about 9 hours.

I do not intend to enter the country, nor will a new check-in be necessary, as the airline will handle the check-in process at the departure airport in Tokyo.

My European passport (German nationality) is only valid for another month, so it falls short of the commonly required three-month passport validity period for transiting through Guangzhou.

Given these circumstances – that I will remain in the sterile transit area and will not pass through immigration – I would like to ask whether I can proceed with my planned journey under the current conditions or if there will be any problems?

Here the essential detail is that your entire flight is on a single Tucker and that you do not have to exit the airport ( transit area, usually called - airside) to collect your luggage and/or sindikat. In that case, you would have a problem, but if you travel on a single (through) ticket, Chinese authorities will not bother themselves with your passport. In other words when you land in Guangzhou you will not even try to exit the airport, but you will basically just walk from one to the other gate. You do not have to perform any formality nor fill out any forms. You will just encounter a security check between the two gates and you will not be a subject of immigration and customs inspections. So, you can provede, but again, only if you are traveling on a single ticket. Have a pleasant journey.
