School age children in China have very little spare time. Most are in school 6 days a week and many 6 and a half days. If they have some spare time they are busy studying or attending a school that offers English classes. Basket ball is a favourite sport
The rural schools are very differant than those in Canada. Some are only one room with children of differant ages. Similar to Canadian schools 80 years ago. A few years ago people in many provinces had to pay for their children to attend school, so not all children attended. However that has recently changed and primary education in the public school system is now free. In Canada you have about 30 students in a class, while here in Guangdong Province it is not uncommon to find more than 100 students studying with one teacher. An average school would have a small stool for the student to sit on and two students would share one desk. They do not keep their school supplies in their desk they must take them home everyday. Also the students are responsible for cleaning their classrooms and the halls at most schools. Their are many private schools but they are quite expensive for the average chinese person. The Chinese teachers do not physically punish their students as a rule if this is what you are asking. It is a difficult job for them and the pay is very low. A teacher in the primary school will only earn around 1,000-1,200 rmb a month in the country schools. That is about 200 dollars. I hope this helps.
