About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

240 hr visa free transit - 2 trips

I will be traveling with a US passport, from US to Shanghai (2 days) to Japan (8 days) . And then Japan to Shanghai (8 days) to US. The tickets were purchased at two round trips US/Shanghai and Shanghai/Japan for cost reasons.
Will this qualify for the 240 hour visa free transit

So, your complete itinerary is:

US - China (Shanghai) - Japan - China (Shanghai) - US

If I am correct about your itinerary, you are definitely eligible for 240 hour visa free transit - twice. It is perfectly fine to travel on two round trip tickets, but you should just be ready to have them both at hand, ready to be presented to the relevant authorities. It is the best to have them printed out or at least to have them as screenshots. Have a nice visit to China - twice.
