About:Chinese Embassy in Japan

I am an American citizen (American passport) currently living in Okinawa, Japan for work. In March, I plan to travel to China via Tokyo for 5 days. I have a few questions about the visa process:
*What type of visa do I need to apply for?
*If I spend one week in Tokyo prior to my flight to Beijing, will that be enough time to apply for and obtain my visa at the China Embassy in Tokyo?
*Will there be English speaking staff at the China Embassy in Tokyo to assist me in the application process?

You need to apply for a tourist visa (L) from the Embassy or Consulate-General in the consular jurisdiction where you reside/work. So, please check the consular district first on this page. Visa processing time is 4 working days in general, but you are required to provide a Chinese hotel reservation certificate and a two-way air ticket when you submit your visa application. And sure there are English speaking staff for visa processing.

Thank you Ms. Enid. So I realized that Okinawa's Consular District is Fukuoka. Does this mean that I can only go through Fukuoka, and cannot take care of the visa at the Embassy of China in Tokyo? If I cannot get to Fukuoka, is my only option to go through a travel agency to process the visa for me?

Yes, according to the regulation, you need to submit your visa application to Fukuoka only. you can entrust a travel agency if you can not go there in person.
