About:Chinese Embassy in Russia

Hi,
Me (permanent resident of US, residing in US) and my mom (citizen of Russia, residing in Russia) are planning to go to China this December to visit my friend (who is not a citizen of China). My friend holds a working visa in China. My mom was not planning to go through a travel agency to get the visa. If my friend who resides in China (not a citizen of China, I repeat) sends a personal invitation to my mom, would this invitation substitute the invitation that is done through travel agencies? In other words, could a personal invitation be the basis for the approval of visa to China? And what other supporting documents could she send to my mom?
Thank you in advance.

Ms.Zhanna, the personal invitation letter from your friend is not helpful for your mom's China visa application because your mom can't provide relationship certificate. The round-trip flight tickets and hotel reservation can substitue the invitation letter from a travel agency in China.

Thank you, Ms. Miles,
Well, here is another issue, my friend is going to host us at her residence so there will no reservation at the hotel. Do you think round-trip tickets alone would work or is mom is out of luck?
Tnank you.

It all depends on the visa officers actually. The round-trip ticket is not sufficient for visa application anyway. you need either an invitation letter or a few days' hotel reservation.
