About:Chinese Consulate in Calgary

I'm a senior citizen and former Hong Kong resident now living in Canada. I hold a Canadian passport, but still have my Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card from the pre-1997 era. Last time when I went back to Hong Kong in 2000, I obtained a 10-year China travel pass, which is for Hong Kong and Macau residents to travel into China. I must have used my Hong Kong ID to apply for that pass - I don't exactly remember. I'm now planning to visit HK and China later this year but found that the HK-China travel pass I obtained 10 years ago has just expired. Can I apply for a new one in Canada, or do I have to go back to HK to apply? Is my pre-1997 Hong Kong ID card still good to use for applying for the China travel pass? Can I go get a China tourist visa instead as a Canadian citizen? I heard from someone that you can't get a visa if you used a HK-China travel pass before. Is that true?

Mrs.Liang, with a Canadian passport, you can enter Hongkong without a visa, and the visa-free period is 90 days. After your visit to Hong Kong, if you head your trip to mainland China and do not want to return Hongkong again, You can just apply for a single-entry L visa to China.
