About:Chinese Embassy in U.S.A.

I have a question to ask you about obtaining the correct visa(s) for study in China. My son (who is a college student) has been accepted to study in two different study programs in China in 2010. The first is from June 14 - August 14, 2010. The second study program is from September 3 - December 16, 2010. He would like to stay in China from the beginning of the first program (mid June) until the end of the second (mid December). What type of visa should he apply for? There is a 2-week gap between both programs. He wanted to remain in China during this time since there is really not enough time to fly back to the U.S. and then back to China again for the second program. It would also be very expensive. What do you recommend?

Your son can apply for Business visa (F visa) which is issued to an alien who is invited to China for a visit, an investigation, a lecture, to do business, scientific-technological and culture exchanges, short-term advanced studies or internship for a period of not more than six months.

Please submit the following documents for your application:
1.A valid passport as well as a copy of its information page: Your valid passport must have at least six (6) months of remaining validity and at least one blank visa page in it.
2.Application form: One completed Visa Application Form
3.Photo: one recent photo of 2x2 squre inch (black & white or color is acceptable) glued or stapled on the application form.
4. the Admission Letter from the two different study programs.

During my son's two week gap between the two study programs in China, can he travel on his own in China? He will need to travel from Beijing (1st program) to Kunming (2nd program)and would like to see the country a bit. Thank you.

Ms.Mary, I guess that your son can travel on his own in China between teh 2 weeks gap, however, it is up to the decision of visa officer, the worst thing is that your son gets a double entry F visa with 6 months validity and he has to exit China when the first programme finishes. Enter China again for the second programme.
