About:Chinese Embassy in U.S.A.

We are taking a cruise ship out of Shanghai and will be overnighting on the ship in Shanghai and then leaving on our cruise the next day. We will arrive at the airport and then be transported to the ship. Is a Visa required when you arrive in Shanghai by air and then leave on a cruise the next day?
Thanks in advance.

Mrs.M, I think you need a visa, you can apply for a multiple entry tourist visa valid for one year because he visa fee is same 130USD. You can also call the cruise ship to enquire whether you need a visa or not.

As I know, Visas are not required of citizens of USA, who transit through Pudong Airport or Hongqiao Airport of Shanghai, provided they hold valid passports, visas for the onward countries, final destination tickets and have booked seats, and stay in Shanghai for less than 48 hours. However, you arrive in the airport in Shanghai, then you go to the ship. Therefore, I guess that you need a Chinese visa.
