About:China Train

Hello! Could you please help me provide some instructions regarding to my situation?
We of 4 people would like to purchase either Z-train or T-train from "Beijing" to "Harbin" which will be leaving in the evening on weekdays during the late of January 2010. And we have already made the decision to select "Soft Sleeper" for a compartment eventually. So here our questions are:-
1.) How many days do we have to buy those tickets in advance successfully?
2.) Is it necessary to buy those tickets by ourselves? Or we could have our relatives there bought for us.
3.) Will it be crowd during those days?
Thank You very much for your appreciable helpful information.

1. Usually passengers can buy the tickets 5-7 days in advance. But sometimes the time differs for different cities.
2. You can surely ask your relative to buy it for you and that will be easier for you.
3. Absolutely. The end of Jan is the beginning of the winter vacation for college students. Most of them choose train to get home. Let alone Jan is the high tourist season in Harbin.
