About:Beijing Great Wall

Hi. My mom and I are planning to stop over in Beijing for 2 days in mid-April 2010. We are going there specifically to tour the Great Wall and other places that we could squeeze in for 2 days. My mom is in her late 70's. Any suggestions on where to go to enjoy the history and culture of Beijing, China? From your article above,it looks like Badaling and Mutianyu seems to be the best. We are hoping to stay away from hotels as they are expensive and hopefully get better deals thru local B&B or tourist farmhouse (as you said above).
Also, it's our first time to travel to China - do we need specific documentations besides our passports? I know I'm asking too much but which airport should I pick when booking airline ticket? - is it the Beijing Capital (PEK)airport? Suggestions/recommendations are vey much appreciated. Thank you very much...

Hi, Ms.AC, To enjoy the history and culture of Beijing, suggest you go to the Forbidden City. It is located in the city center. Yes, Badaling and Mutianyu is repaired walls. They are the best choice if you don't like trekking and emphasize on safety.

Besides passport, you also need visa to come to China, and pick Beijing Capital Airport when booking airlike ticket. Good trip!

We stayed in Sleepy Inn, a backpacker hostel near to Houhai Park, I am satisfied with it. I would suggest Mutianyu Greatwall as there is cable car to ride, easier for your mum. Forbidden City is a good choice if you are interested in history and culture. Be prepared to walk for 8 hours a day as the attractions are very large in area.

Thanks - Ms Sleepyhamster and Ms Chun Yu. I'm preparing our tour in China - saving as well. Too bad, we can only be there for 2 days. Btw, Ms Yu what's the sit up of the Sleepy Inn? one room per family or just a big room w/ beds? How much was the room per day/night?
Greatly appreciated.
