About:Shanghai Pudong Airport

Hello,

Thank you very much for your help. I am flying into Shanghai Pudong Airport from Beijing on October 27th. I will be staying at the Rayfront Shanghai Xuhui Hotel in the Xuhui Commercial district. What recommendations do you have to get from the airport to the hotel?

If you are recommending a train, bus or taxi, can you tell me how long this trip would take and would much in US $ would it cost? If you recommend a taxi, please tell me how much a tip should be? We tip 20% here in the United States.

I appreciate your help and assistance!

You should take the Mag-Lev train from the airport to Shanghai, it doesn't get you all the way, but it will get you most of the way...it cost 40RMB. From there, take a cab to your hotel. Print out a taxi card (directions to your hotel in Chinese) from your hotel's website. The legitimate taxi companies all line up in one area outside the train station, you will get a slip of paper from them explaining the rules of the taxi industry.

Please remember that tipping is not the norm in China. In many cases it may even offend. Either that or they will just think you are stupid. Taxi drivers will take a tip but it's not necessary and the more people who leave this silly western practice at home, the better.
