About:Chinese Embassy in Australia

Hi,
I plan to backpack through China (less than 30 days). I am an Australian citizen but I am currently in Malaysia. I have been reading through this forum and see that it may be necessary to show evidence of a hotel reservation and outward flight details to receive a visa. I currently do not have these as I would like to plan this as I go along.
Is it still possible to obtain a visa this way?

You can contact the embassy to state your situation and ask them for help.
