Hello. Here is what I know:
1. The cheapest way from Hong Kong to Macau is by subway. Take HK MTR to Lowu Station, pass the border you are in Shenzhen Lohu District. You can get to the Window of the World, Overseas Chinese Town and etc by bus and subway. Take train at Hung Hom Station to Guangzhou.
2. Live near the MTR station would be convenient. Metropark Hotel is the best for your trip to Guangzhou and Shenzhen. It is only half a kilometer from Hung Homg Station.
3. Regal Oriental Hotel is close to Causeway Bay shopping area, in north of Hong Kong island.

if you are in hk island, it costs you 90 HKG to Guangzhou, and if you are in Kowloon, it costs 80 HKG. Also you can take a bus to Luo Hu, and take the bus to guangzhou or Shenzhen.

Just buy the ticket when you get there, no need to book
