I have been to Shangri-la last year and very familiar with the transportation. You can go there by coach or by flight. The coach will cost about 12 hours while the fight just need one hour at most. I heard that there will be train available next year and want to have a try next time.
There are at least six flights on August 20, 2009 from Shangrila to Kunming. The flights are listed as below for your reference:
China Eastern Airlines:
MU5934, 08:50-09:50, CNY900, 8% discount tickets are available
MU5932, 09:05-09:55, CNY900
MU5811, 09:55-10:55, CNY900
MU5936, 12:10-13:00, CNY900
MU5838, 13:55-15:00, CNY900
MU5938, 21:20-22:20, CNY900
If you want to book the flights, you can submit your booking on the site. However, you should choose the departure city "Diqing" instead of Shangrila for Shangrila is a county which belongs to Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Region.
