About:China Customs Declaration

Hello all...

I am Canadian, and travelling to China in September for the first time. I would like to bring 2 IPOD's as gifts, which cost here 150.00 each CAD, which as of today, is the equivalent of 1,700 rmb. I would also like to bring my own IPOD, which costs the same, 150.00 CAD or 882 rmb, and my camera which is approx 150.00 cad. The one IPOD and camera are for personal use and returning with me. Will I need to pay extra for the gifts I am bringing? Also, can I bring chinese currency into china with me, or should I get it when I am in china? Thank you in advance for all your help :)

Hi, the ipod which is for personal use and the camera can be taken to China for free. For the other two present ipod, you need to pay the extra as you can only take 2000 yuan pesent into China fro free. The totally value of the ipods is 3400 yuan, so you need to pay duty for the exceeded 1400 yuan. Are you clear?
By the way, you can bring Chinese currency into China with you, the max is 20,000. But my opinion that do not exchange too much in your Country as the rate is not good, you can exchange some and then wait until you reach China, the exchange rate is favourable!
Oh, i nearly forgot, you'd better take the receipt of the two ipod, cause the customs may ask a look at it.

I am not quite clear on the customs question.
You replied that the total was 3400 yaun that I was bringing into China. The total amount of the 2 ipods in chinese currency, is 1700 rmb...they are 882 rmb each. I should be able to bring them for free right?

I am sorry, i thought that the 3 ipod are 1700 rmb each. Ok, then you can bring them for free! Good luck!

Thank you very much for your reply. It is much appreciated. I do have one more silly question, do I need to bring an adapter or anything to charge my ipod and my camera batteries? I seems there are different opinions, but not one from someone who actually lives in China> Thanks again>
