Economic? Do you mean how it affected the countries economically? For China it was prosperous, especially during the golden age. For Rome, it was rather detrimental. Rome used up much of its metal and money for luxuries from Asia and other countries along the Silk Road. That caused quite an inflation. That was one of the causes of the downfall of the Roman Empire. So you can conclude that the Silk Road greatly affected the economic circumstances of the countries involved. For some countries, such as China, it was a beneficial thing. For others...it depends.
