How to prove exit plans on TWOV if you are leaving via Zhuhai-Macau?

I am an American citizen planning to enter China via flight to Chongqing using the transit without visa program (TWOV). I was considering exiting the mainland through the Zhuhai-Macau land border, which I read is a valid port. However, I don't know how I would prove my exit plans to the airline check-in staff and immigrations given that this is primarily a pedestrian crossing. Should instead book a ferry from Shenzhen to Macau? Should I book a refundable train ticket to Hong Kong and cancel it prior to crossing at Zhuhai? What other options do I have to provide proof?

To ensure your trip, it's advised to book a ferry or train ticket to prove your leaving. It's not advised to cancel the ticket, because before you entering, you are required to fill in the online arrival card, on which you will write down the entry and exit port which will be recorded.
