About:Visa on Arrival

Indonesian Passport Visa

Hello, I'd like to ask. My family is Malaysian. But my mother is Indonesian. Our plan is to go to Hong Kong for a few days and then go to ShenZhen for 2 nights before returning to Malaysia. Is my Indonesian mother eligible for the 5 day visa? Or the 240 visa free transit?

You can visit Shenzhen without any problem. Malaysian citizens do not need a visa at all and your Indonesian mother will apply and obtain a Shenzhen visa on arrival (VOA) at one of three designated border crossings. I recommend you to use Lo Wu / Luohu border crossing where the visa office is located. Your Indonesian mother is also eligible for 240 hour visa free transit, but I would not recommend this option because it would involve that you first travel to Macau and then from Macau to Shenzhen. That would be costlier and more complicated compared to Shenzhen 5 days VOA.

So, you will take MTR suburban train - East Rail Line from the center of Hong Kong to Lo Wu. You will clear Hong Kong exit formalities and then walk (very short and easy) to Luohu where she will apply for a Shenzhen 5 days VOA at visa office. You will assist her. She does not has to do anything in advance because everything will be done at the border crossing, including a payment of 130 CNY. This amount can be paid by foreign bank cards or in Chinese cash. When your mother receives a VOA, you will all cross the mainland Chinese immigration and head to Shenzhen. When your visit to Shenzhen is over, you will return to Hong Kong by taking any border crossing and any mean of transport, high speed train included. Have a nice visit to Shenzhen.
