Hi,
My coworker and me are visiting a client in Shenzhen for 2 days after I landed in Hong Kong. Will this VOA be ok with a U.S. passport

Yes, it definitely will. You will easily obtain it when you arrive in Shekou port (Shenzhen). After you enter Shenzhen you can meet your client without any hesitation. Have a nice visit to Shenzhen.
