About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

24hr visa free transit

Hi, I have Bangladeshi passport. I want to fly to Spain from Dhaka via China. The following two options.

(1) Dhaka-Kunming-Shanghai-Barcelona. The time beween landing Kunming and departure from Shanghai within the 24hrs limit. As I do not have Chinese visa and to take domestic flight to Shanghai, will I get the 24hrs visa free transit? Does 2hrs at Kunming enough to complete the formalities? As all legs are on same airline China eastern will I able to checked baggage in Dhaka and claim in Barcelona?

(2) Dhaka-Beijing-Barcelona(Air China). Transit 22hrs. Can I get the 24hrs visa free transit and exit permit to visit Beijing city during this long layover? And as the both legs are on same airline, can I checked baggage in Dhaka and claim at my destination Barcelona?

Many thanks in advance for your time and consideration.

Part 1:

Jisan, both of your itineraries are eligible for 24 visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa.

Now, the first important detail is, have you properly counted your total transit time in China and I ask that specifically for your first itinerary. Total transit time is counted from your first scheduled landing in China (in your case in Kunming) until your scheduled departure from China (in your case from Shanghai). So, also a duration of your flight between Kunming and Shanghai counts.

If your total transit time is shorter than 24 hours here is what will you do upon your landing in Kunming:

- Upon landing in Kunming you will fill out arrival card and tick transit in the appropriate box on the arrival card
- Perform fingerprinting at automatic fingerprinting machine
- Approach 24/240 hour visa free transit counter where you will present your flight tickets, your arrival card and fingerprinting receipt
- You will receive a temporary entry permit in your passport
- You will cross the immigration because your next flight is a domestic one and you will head to the gate for your flight to Shanghai
- Upon your arrival in Shanghai you are free to enjoy your time on your own in the city
- When you return to the airport you will cross the exit immigration and head to the gate for your flight to Barcelona.

2 hours of layover in Kunming should be fine to accomplish the formalities, but you really have to be agile and fast.

Part 2:

Your second itinerary is simpler, you will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit and upon landing in Beijing you will do exactly as you were instructed to do in Kunming. The main difference in this case is the fact that the immigration authorities could deny granting of temporary entry permit because your next flight is an international one. In that case, you will have to wait all your transit time in the transit area of Beijing airport. The chances that you will receive a temporary entry permit are huge, but you have to understand that a rejection is a possibility. Tiny, but it exists.

When your temporary entry permit is granted, you are free to exit the airport and to explore the city and to have a night rest. Indeed, a booked hotel helps in obtaining a temporary entry permit.

If you have bought your flight tickets as a single booking, your luggage will be tagged in Dhaka all the way to Barcelona. In any case, you will check/confirm about this detail at the time of your check-in in Dhaka. Have a nice journey.
