About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

US, traveling to Hong Kong - 4 days then to Shanghai by train - 4 days then flying out of Shanghai.

We have US passports and documentation of our hotels and flights, are we eligible for the 240 hour visa?

Yes, you are eligible for 240 hour visa free transit, but you have to buy your exit ticket from Shanghai and mainland China in general to a country or eligible territory different than Hong Kong. In other words,you cannot return directly to Hong Kong from mainland China since you have entered mainland China from Hong Kong. Also, that ticket has to be bought before you depart from Hong Kong toward mainland China. Beside taking a train you can also fly. Have a nice visit to China.
