Yes, your itinerary is definitely eligible for 240 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. Here, just three details to clarify:
1. Your flight from US to Shanghai is not allowed to have a landing in Hong Kong of any kind because you will use Hong Kong to exit mainland China.
2. Before your departure from US you will have to buy your train ticket from Guangzhou to Hong Kong West Kowloon station because you will be asked to present it both at the time of check-in in US and upon landing in Shanghai.
3. I can see that you have quite an ambitious itinerary for relatively short time allowed to stay in China. You can maximize it with the fact that the day of landing in China is not counted against your 10 days allowed to stay in the country. In other words, the day 1 begins on the day after the date you have arrived in China. The day of arrival / landing is day 0. Like this you can get almost entire additional day. Please, just be careful to exit mainland China within the legal time frame.
Have a nice visit to China.
