Work visa

My husband was sent to China on a work visa. The visa was for 30 days, but the job didn't get finished for a year. He's been in China for 15 months now. How long will it take for him to get a visa too return home?

Did he get the resident permit? And what's the expire date of the permit? If the permit has expired, then he needs to apply for renewal at the local exit and entry administration and do the application with the help of his employer.
