Istanbul - Chengdu - Shanghai - Seoul

Planning on flying from Istanbul to Chengdu then headed to Shanghai. Does my flight from Shanghai to Seoul have to be with the same carrier or can I book independent tickets?

It can be done with different carriers and you can fly on separate (independent) tickets. This is not a problem and this options was acceptable for, literally, years. You should just be aware that you will perform all your entry formalities at the first point of landing in China and in your case it is Chengdu. Nothing to worry about because this is a fairly standard procedure. The recommendation is that you print out the confirmations of your flight tickets sent to your email inbox and to have them at hand. If you cannot do that, you should make screenshots and have them in the gallery of your smartphone because you will be asked to present them in both Istanbul at the time of your check-in and in Chengdu upon your landing. Have a nice journey.
