Yes, you can do that. Your itinerary is eligible for 240 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa, but you will have to have these details in mind when planning your journey:
- When traveling on 240 hour visa free transit from Hong Kong to mainland China you can fly or take a ferry.
- My suggestion is that you take a ferry from Hong Kong to Shekou port in Shenzhen.
- Even before you depart from Hong Kong toward Shenzhen you will have to have your Guangzhou or Shenzhen to Taiwan ticket already booked because you will be asked to present it in both Hong Kong (at the time of your boarding the ferry) and upon your arrival in Shekou port in Shenzhen.
- Please, do not apply for a Shenzhen 5 day visa on arrival when you arrive in Shekou because this is not what you need, you will apply for a temporary entry permit under 240 hour visa free transit scheme!
- You are allowed to travel around, but you should have booked your hotel at least for the first night because you will be asked to present your address/hotel in China on the arrival card that you will fill out when you arrive in Shekou.
- When the time comes, you will take exactly that flight from Guangzhou/Shenzhen to Taiwan you have presented upon your arrival in Shekou.
