About:Chinese Embassies and Consulates

Itinerary

hey, im planning to fly to fly from US -> Hong Kong and stay for a couple of days -> Take the ferry to guangdong for 5 days -> bullet train to Chongqing for 3 days -> Fly to Korea with a 2 hour layover in nanjing. Is this fine? Someone been telling me I must go to Macau then go into China.

Yes, it's fine. As long as the immediate points before and after China mainland is in two different territories, the itinerary is eligible. Macau and HK are both considered as eligible territories under the 240h visa-free transit.
