Deepika, your itinerary does not require a visa because you will be covered by 24 hour visa visa free transit - twice. It is important to use correcter terminology in order to avoid any possible misunderstandings because you will not need a visa at all. It is important to calculate correctly. So, in order to be eligible for 24 hour visa free transit, the time between your scheduled arrival in Shanghai and your scheduled departure by a cruise cannot be longer than 24 hours. It is not a problem to have an overnight in Shanghai, but that time, as I have explained, cannot be longer than 24 hours. The same thing is valid for your second arrival in Shanghai. The time from your scheduled cruise arrival until your plane scheduled departure cannot exceed 24 hours. If you are within 24 hours time frame, you are eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. It is highly advisable to have your cruise voucher at hand because you will be asked to present it in both Hong Kong at the time of your check-in in Hong Kong and also upon your landing in Shanghai. When you land in Shanghai, the first thing that you will do is to fill out arrival card and to tick the box - transit on it. After that you will approach the automatic fingerprinting machines and take a receipt from it. Then you will approach 24/240 hour visa free transit counter where you will present your flight and cruise tickets/voucher. After a short check, you will be granted a temporary entry permit that allows you to formally enter China. With a temporary entry permit in your hand, you will head to the immigration and then to collect your luggage and to perform a transfer to the cruise port. You will perform the same procedure when you arrive by cruise back to Shanghai. As you can see, there are some formalities, but nothing to worry about. You should just check, once more, that your total transit time is shorter than 24 and after that, just proceed with your travel plans.
