About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Visa-Free Transit Inquiry for Urumqi (URC) – with Checked Luggage

I am an Iranian citizen planning to travel from Tehran (IKA) to Hong Kong (HKG) via Urumqi (URC) with China Southern Airlines, with the following itinerary:

Flight Route (10 Sep 2025): Tehran (IKA) → Urumqi (URC) → Hong Kong (HKG)

Transit Time in Urumqi: Less than 4 hours

Ticket Issuance: Both flights are on the same ticket (China Southern Airlines, Flight Numbers: CZ 6026 and CZ 603)

Visa Status: I hold a valid Hong Kong visa but do not have a Chinese visa.

Since I will not leave the international transit area of Urumqi Airport, I would like to confirm:

Do I need a Chinese transit visa (G Visa) for this short layover?

Are there any special requirements for Iranian passengers transiting in Urumqi under these conditions?

Regarding baggage: My checked luggage will be tagged through to Hong Kong (HKG). Do I need to collect and recheck my bags in Urumqi, or will they be automatically transferred? If no baggage claim is required, does this mean I can remain in the international transit zone without needing a Chinese visa?

I would greatly appreciate your guidance to ensure full compliance with all regulations.

The first and the most important detail is that you do not need any kind of visa because your journey will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit. So, when you perform check-in in Tehran you will declare that you are flying to Hong Kong via Urumqi under 24 hour visa free transit. Check-in staff will see this fact because you are flying on the same ticket, so there will be no need to perform any acts to prove this detail. Shorty, you will be allowed to board Urumqi bound plane. Upon your landing in Urumqi the first thing that you will do will be to fill out arrival card because you will have to collect & re-check your luggage and for this reason, you will simply have to formally enter China. You will tick the box on the arrival card where it is written - transit. After that you will perform automatic fingerprinting. With a filled out arrival card and a fingerprinting receipt you will approach 24/240 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit by presenting your flight tickets and along with arrival card and fingerprinting receipt. This is all free of any charge. After a short check you will be granted a permit and then you will cross the immigration and head to collect your luggage. When you are done with that, you will head to the check-in to re-check your luggage for the second leg of your journey. You have enough time to perform all the procedures, but try to be relatively quick with them and not to create a tense situation. By the way, it is possible that your luggage will be tagged all the way to Hong Kong and without a need to collect and re-check it, but you should count on a very possible (almost certain) situation where you will have to perform the formalities I have described to you. The most important detail is that you have enough time to perform all the formalities and above all, you do not need a visa because your journey will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit. Have a nice journey.
