Hi, I want to know if it is possible to transit in a different city in China on the departure. I am looking at traveling Hanoi to Beijing 3 day stay in Beijing then departing Beijing to Tbilisi with a 6.5hr layover in Urimiqi is this itinerary possible with visa free transit?

No, this is not allowed and you have to apply for a transit visa in advance.

Just to add that when you plan to use 144 hour visa free transit scheme, you are not allowed to have two mainland Chinese cities in a row. This option is allowed only when flying on 24 hour visa free transit.
