Visa-free transit: can I leave China by train?

I want to travel Japan - Beijing - HK. I would like to Travel by train on the Beijing to Hong Kong leg. Can I still make use of the 240 hr visa-free stay in mainland China assuming I can show my train ticket on arrival?

You can take a train to West Kowloon under the 240 but note that your arrival time in HK will be considered your exit time, so from your arrival in Beijing to arrival in HK (not the departure from Beijing), the duration should be no more than 240 hours.
