About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can I leave airport

I have a flight from Singapore to Osaka KIX airport with a 10h layover in Shanghai PVG (China Eastern Airlines). May I know if I can leave the airport even though I am not needed to collect and re-check my luggage? It is all within 1 ticket, will I be able to leave the airport?

If you are a Singaporean citizen, you can exit without any doubt because Singaporean citizen do not need a visa to enter mainland China. If you are a citizen of a country that needs a visa to enter mainland China, then the first thing that you will do upon landing in Shanghai will be to approach 24/240 hour visa free transit where you will apply for a temporary entry permit by presenting your flight tickets and you will also hand over a filled out form. After a short check, you will be told whether your permit is granted or refused. You have to be aware that the issuing of a temporary entry permit is not a passenger's right, but a gesture of good will by the Chinese immigration authorities. In any case I would say that your chances to be granted a permit are very good and you should definitely apply to get one. I wish you a pleasant, although short visit to Shanghai.
