About:Ferry of Shekou Port, Shenzhen

HK to Guangzhou and back

I am an American and will be vacationing in Hong Kong and would like to visit Guangzhou for 3 nights. Please let me know if I can use the 250 hours TWOV option for the following transportation arrangements, and which one is most suitable:

1. Take high speed train from Hong Kong to Guangzhou and return to Hong Kong via Shenzhen on the train

2. Take high speed train from Hong Kong to Guangzhou and return to Hong Kong via Macau using the Gongbei port.

3. Take the ferry from Hong Kong to Guangzhou and return from Shenzhen to Hong Kong via the ferry

4. Take the ferry from Hong Kong to Guangzhou and return from Guangzhou to Hong Kong via Macau (crossing at Gongbei port)

If there are other better options to explore mainland China from Hong Kong please let me know.

Plan 4 is the only one that works. You cannot enter Mainland China from HK by train, and HK – Guangzhou – Shenzhen – HK is not eligible for the 240h visa free transit as it’s a round trip between Mainland China and HK, not a transit. Only HK – Guangzhou (by ferry) – Macau – HK is qualified. But even before you leave for Guangzhou, you need to have the ticket from mainland China to Macau in hand, ferry ticket usually.

Alan May, I don’t understand how Option 4 would work as it’s still a round trip from Hong Kong. Last country before entry to China should be different from first stopover outside China on departure, regardless of whether it’s by airplane or ferry. Could you please explain.
